Pet Display the Month of May
Bring in a photo of your pet(s) to be a part of our pet display during the month of May! Write your pet’s name on the front of a 4″x6″ photo and we will proudly display it on our wall. Do you need to print a picture? Use our printer here at the library, free of charge, for 1 or 2 pet photos. Also, on Saturday, May 3rd at 1 PM, we are presenting the program: “Elevating Animal Well-Being Through Enrichment.” This class is targeted to adults and will be taught by Rebecca Lohnes, a certified dog and cat behavior consultant and co-owner of Young Lion Training and Behavior. This program is free, but donations for Pet Pride of New York, a cat sanctuary and adoption center in Victor, will be accepted. (Click through to view Pet Pride’s Wish List.) Friday Movie Matinees for Adults
Adults, join us at the library on Fridays at 1:30 for a free movie. Complimentary snacks provided by The Friends of Mendon Public Library. No registration necessary. May 9: Moonrise (PG), May 16: Lion (PG-13).
Elevating Animal Well-Being Through Enrichment
Whether you have a dog, cat, bird, or any other animal in your life, they can benefit from daily enrichment – a tactic borrowed from zookeepers! Please attend this class on animal enrichment on Saturday, May 3rd, from 1 PM – 2 PM at the Mendon Public Library. This program is being offered free of charge, but donations for Pet Pride of New York, a cat sanctuary and adoption center in Victor will be accepted. Please sign up to reserve your seat. Motional Intelligence for Seniors
Many of us think our ability to move will steadily worsen as we age. But with self-awareness and some smart choices, movement can be easier than we think! Join this movement awareness class, based on the Feldenkrais Method (tinyurl.com/felden-what), from 1 PM – 2 PM, on Tuesday, May 6 (moved from March 4.) All are welcome; bring a friend! PLEASE NOTE: This event will be held at Pinehurst Senior Living Community. Your instructor, Lisa Hochgraf, has studied Feldenkrais for over 20 years. Author Talk – History Unleashed Lafayette’s Remarkable Tour of the Greater Western NY Region
Adults and Teens, join local author and publisher Chris Carosa on Tuesday, May 6th, 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM here at the library. Chris will talk about his book History Unleashed: Lafayette’s Remarkable Tour of the Greater Western New York Region and recount Lafayette’s visit to our area 200 years ago. Learn About Dahlias with Cornell Co-Op Master Gardeners – Online
This online lecture, on Tuesday, May 6th, from 7 PM – 8 PM, will focus on dahlias, a beautiful addition to any garden. Learn how to select and plant the right varieties for you! The program will be taught by Master Gardener Mary Feasal from Cornell Cooperative Extension. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link prior to the event. ***This program is available thanks to a consortium of MCLS libraries who are sharing resources and connecting communities!***

Saturday Story Times Twice A Month
Miss Lori loves to share stories, songs, and activities with preschool kids and their families! Join us every other Saturday, at 10:00 AM, in the Mendon Public Library Jacobs Family Reading Room, for a half hour of fun. Registration is not required; just stop in! The following Saturday Story Times are currently scheduled: May 10, and June 14.
What is a Mushroom? Mycology 101 for Teens & Adults
Teens and Adults: Join us at the Mendon Public Library Jacobs Family Reading Room on Monday, May 12th, 6 PM – 7:30 PM, to learn about mushrooms! On Thursday, May 15th, Mendon Public Library will be closed to the public from 9 AM - 1 PM for staff training. The library will re-open to the public from 1 PM, until close at 8 PM. As always, Thank you for your patronage!
Bicentennial Basics of the Erie Canal
Teens and Adults. Do you know why the Erie Canal was built? How was it built? What happened with it once it was built? Where is it now? All these questions and more will be answered in this crash course on “Clinton’s Ditch.” Join Derrick Pratt, Director of Education at the Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse to learn all about the Erie Canal at the Mendon Public Library on Tuesday, May 20th, from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM. BookPage and Reading Recommendations Available at MPL
Thanks to the Friends of Mendon Public Library, we have a subscription to BookPage in 2025! These publications, printed monthly, will be free for our library patrons to take with them, if they wish.
Tuesday Story Time
Join Miss Kelly each Tuesday morning at 10 AM for Story Time. Preschoolers and their caregivers will read a few stories, sing a few songs, and make new friends. Registration not necessary.
Teen Tuesday Volunteers
Middle and High Schoolers: Do you want to make a difference by helping your library and community? Would you like to earn community service credit? Join us on select Tuesdays to participate in various activities. We will meet at the Mendon Public Library, from 2:30 – 4 on Tuesday afternoons. Space is limited; registration is recommended.

Using your Mendon Public Library card, you can now access Kanopy, a free movie streaming service with no ads and no subscriptions. Kanopy offers an expertly curated collection of films we think you will enjoy. We are pleased to bring this streaming service to our community.
